UPDATE 03.08.20 – SG 2020: The Future of Savings Groups, was unfortunately cancelled due to the outbreak of and many unknown factors surrounding the Corona Virus. SEEP hopes to either reschedule the conference for a later date when these factors are not in play or have been addressed, or to share the information over a virtual plarform. As we are given more information, we will continue to provie updates here.
On March 10 – 12, Joel, our Director of Operations, and James, our Ugandan Country Director will be in Durban, South Africa for SG 2020: The Future of Savings Groups, a global savings group conference convened by the SEEP Network. The conference offers a platform for attendees to connect, engage and learn from each other about the challenges and opportunities they face in supporting savings groups worldwide.
Not only will this provide an incredible space for Seed Effect to connect with like-minded organizations, individuals, and donors, but Joel is also chairing and presenting a session in Track 1: Leaving No One Behind. The idea and purpose behind Track 1 is to build upon prior experience, catalyze further experimentation, delineate gaps in knowledge for future research, present improved program and business models, and strengthen partnerships and alliances – all for the ultimate aim of ensuring that everyone, everywhere has access to economic empowerment through a quality savings group.
In this track, Joel will be leading and facilitating a panel session titled “Refugees Can’t Join Savings Groups…or Can They?” He will challenge this proconceived notion by providing evidence from the field alongside representatives from the United Nations Capital Development Fund and Vision Fund International.
Please join us in praying for travel mercies and for how God is going to move in and through this space. We look forward to sharing updates as the conference unfolds and reporting back once it has concluded.
