Fiona Madraa, Country Director

Fiona Comfort Madraa joined Seed Effect Uganda in April of 2019 as Headquarter’s Human Resource Officer. In this role, Fiona learned the inner workings of what it takes to make Seed Effect run effectively. She developed rapport with her colleagues, which was not limited to the Head Office and Branch Staff in Adjumani, but rather span across all four of Seed Effect’s branches. This gave her unique insight and a first hand look into the nuances of each location. She often served as James’ right hand woman in regards to licensure and other critical work that keeps Seed Effect’s position as an officially recognized non-profit and maintains a healthy realtionship with the Ugandan government.

This unique skill set coupled with Fiona’s gifts of strategic thinking, a thoughtful, clear communication style, and a deep reverence and reliance on the Lord resulted in her stepping into the position of Seed Effect Uganda’s Country Director after James’, the former CD, unexpected passing.

On her time with Seed Effect thus far, Fiona shared,

“My experience with Seed Effect Uganda has been a great honor as I love the culture that puts Jesus Christ at the center of every activity, this has enabled me to continuously build my career as well as grow in my relationship with God. “

Prior to joining Seed Effect Uganda, she worked with BLD Consults Uganda Limited as a Human Resource Assistant. While working Fiona served her community through volunteer and additional part-time work opportunities: she worked as a Sub County Supervisor with the Ministry of Health in the Chase Malaria Program, as well as a Research Assistant with Uganda Reach the Aged Association (URAA), which aimed at improving the livelihood of elderly persons and the quality of education in underdeveloped districts in Uganda, and volunteered with the Uganda Heart Institute in the Human Resource Office.

Fiona was born on the outskirts of Moyo district in a village called Elenderea. She was raised in a polygamous family and is the eldest of six children. Her parents sacrificed the little money they had to enable her to study. Despite the difficulties, Fiona overcame and was encouraged by her favorite scripture, Phillippians 4:13, to stay the course and dedicate herself to her school work.

This steadfastness led to Fiona’s academic success which secured her a government scholarship to attend Makerere University. She graduated with honors and a degree in Business Administration in 2017.

Her passion and desire to better understand the art of management inspired her to pursue a master’s degree in Human Resource Management at the Uganda Management Institute, where she graduated with highest honors. Fiona is currently pursuing a master’s in Management Science from the same institute, and is a member of the Human Resource Managers Association of Uganda.
