“My favorite thing about my Seed Effect group is the love I have received from fellowgroup members. They support me whenever things are difficult.”

With her red Santa hat and infectious smile, Rose stood out from her Seed Effect group.

Once we heard her story, we knew we had to share it with you this Christmas. In the midst of hardship, Rose’s group has become like family; a gift that you have made possible.

The effects of poverty and trauma have led to widespread alcoholism in northern Uganda and South Sudan. Home-brewed alcohol is potent and readily accessible, exacerbating the problem. With such demand, brewing alcohol is a lucrative business. Despite the known negative impact this business has on the community, when you are struggling to provide for your family, lucrative is appealing.

Rose joined a Seed Effect group two years ago. To care for her four children, she used to be a brewer.

“I used to brew alcohol and supply yeast for other people, but as we read the Word of God in my Seed Effect group, I changed my business to one that glorifies God.

As we gather together to save money, I have taken loans to grow my new business, for farming to increase my agricultural produce, and to pay school fees for my children.”

Now because of her Seed Effect group, Rose has found Christ-centered community and financial security.

“My Seed Effect group has encouraged me economically, spiritually, and socially.  My favorite thing about my Seed Effect group is the love I have received from fellow group members. They support me whenever things are difficult.”
