Esther Kuyunge

“My son fell sick and died. I was in so much misery, but God was speaking to me. So I decided to receive Jesus in my life. Now there are moments of hardship and joy, but Jesus has taken over all the hard situations and I follow him.”

Esther Kuyunge is a fishmonger who buys fish raised in the Nile River, smokes them, and sells them to customers in Wudu Market. Her customers usually prepare the fish by frying them or creating a fish paste. Esther uses the income from her business to support her large family of eight children.

When asked to share a time when God helped her through a difficult situation, she tells a story about her firstborn child. “My son fell sick and died,” she says. “I was in so much misery and kept wondering how I would continue on. But God was speaking to me, telling me to stop that kind of thinking. So I decided to receive Jesus in my life, and from that time, there are moments of hardship and joy, but Jesus has taken over all the hard situations and I follow him. We can give our troubles to Jesus.”
